AWG Rennsteig eG Suhl | Contact & Opening Hours

The AWG Housing Cooperative "Rennsteig" eG is in Suhl much more than just an address for rental inquiries. The cooperative combines traditional housing supply, personal advice, digital services, and regional anchoring in one place at Friedrich-König-Straße 11. According to its own representation, it serves 4,286 members and 3,291 apartments, works with 20 employees without a board, and organizes its participation through 59 representatives, 6 supervisory board members, and 2 full-time board members. Its roots date back to 1907, when the Suhl Building Association e.G.m.b.H. was founded; since then, the cooperative has developed through many stages. Contact, Opening Hours, and Direct Accessibility

Those who wish to reach AWG Rennsteig eG personally will find the office at Friedrich-König-Straße 11, 98527 Suhl. The official website lists the phone number 03681 / 39190 and the email address info@awg-rennsteig.de. Additionally, a contact form is available through which members and interested parties can ask questions or submit concerns. This mix of personal accessibility and digital contact makes the cooperative easily accessible to many people, whether it is about an apartment, a follow-up question regarding the inventory, or general service concerns. ([awg-rennsteig.de](https://awg-rennsteig.de/ueber-uns/))

The opening hours are clearly structured: Mondays to Wednesdays from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Thursdays from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM; visits are also possible by appointment. For emergencies outside of office hours, the website provides a separate number. This shows that AWG not only relies on standard office hours but also wants to remain reachable in urgent cases. For visitors, this means planning certainty: those who come with a specific concern can use the opening hours effectively and do not have to search long for when personal advice is actually possible. ([awg-rennsteig.de](https://awg-rennsteig.de/ueber-uns/))

In terms of content, the office is primarily a point of contact for members, rental applicants, and people who want to learn about living in Suhl and the surrounding areas. The website mentions a team that addresses questions, special requests, and needs for assistance. Especially in a cooperative, this direct contact is important because living here is not only understood as a contractual relationship but as a long-term relationship between members, management, and regional inventory. Therefore, those looking for a reliable housing address will find here not just an administration but a contact person with structure and clear processes. Over 115 Years of History and the Cooperative in Numbers

The history of AWG Rennsteig eG is closely linked to the development of housing in Suhl and the surrounding area. On the about us page, the chronicle begins in 1907 with the founding meeting of the Suhl Building Association e.G.m.b.H., which is referred to as the first housing cooperative in the city and the oldest root of today's AWG. This is followed by further milestones such as the foundations in Zella-Mehlis and Suhl, the formation of various workers' housing cooperatives, the merger in 1972 to form the workers' housing cooperative "Rennsteig" in Suhl, the renaming in 1990, and the name change in 1998. This development shows how strongly the cooperative has grown with local housing needs over generations. ([awg-rennsteig.de](https://awg-rennsteig.de/ueber-uns/))

The current structure of the cooperative is as remarkable as its history. According to the website, it has 4,286 members, 3,291 apartments, 20 employees without a board, a representative assembly with 59 representatives, a supervisory board with 6 members, and a board with 2 full-time members. Additionally, there are economic indicators for 2024, such as balance sheet total, annual result, operating result, investments, and equity ratio. These data prove that AWG has not only grown historically but also operates today as a professionally organized housing cooperative. For seekers, this is an important signal: here, traditional cooperative principles meet a robust corporate structure. ([awg-rennsteig.de](https://awg-rennsteig.de/ueber-uns/))

The official self-presentation also emphasizes the size and importance of AWG. In a brochure, the cooperative describes itself as the largest housing cooperative in southern Thuringia with over 115 years of history. At the same time, it mentions over 3,000 apartments and around 1,000 other rental units, which makes the breadth of the inventory visible. AWG is also a member of the Association of Thuringian Housing and Real Estate Industry, the GdW Federal Association of German Housing and Real Estate Companies, and the IHK Südthüringen. This integration into strong networks speaks for professional exchange, regional networking, and a professional framework for its work. ([awg-rennsteig.de](https://awg-rennsteig.de/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/RGS_Maler.pdf))

Living in Suhl, Zella-Mehlis, and Oberhof

AWG Rennsteig eG sees itself not only as the management of individual houses but as a regional housing provider in the Rennsteig area. Already the website navigation shows that the company offers apartments in Suhl, Zella-Mehlis, and Oberhof. This covers an area that is interesting for many people in southern Thuringia as a living and working environment. Therefore, those searching here will find not just a single address but a whole network of housing options in a geographically and urbanistically diverse region. ([awg-rennsteig.de](https://awg-rennsteig.de/ueber-uns/))

The current offerings page of the website also makes it clear that AWG works with different types of apartments. Among other things, 2-room, 3-room, and 4-room apartments as well as commercial spaces in Suhl are presented. Some offers are located in central locations, others in suburban residential areas, and the page thus shows the range of the inventory. This is helpful for interested parties because it quickly becomes clear that AWG can appeal to singles and couples as well as families and commercial tenants. At the same time, the communication remains factual: areas, floors, rents, and features are transparently visible online. ([awg-rennsteig.de](https://awg-rennsteig.de/services/))

Especially in a cooperative, this mix of diversity and reliability is crucial. AWG describes living as a secure and socially responsible housing supply for its members. This is more than a marketing phrase: it refers to the cooperative core, according to which members are not just customers but also part of a community. In practice, this means regional proximity, long-term orientation, and an organization that understands living not as a short-term product but as a permanent home. Therefore, those looking for an apartment in Suhl or the neighboring areas will find here a structure that focuses on stability rather than quick changes. ([awg-rennsteig.de](https://awg-rennsteig.de/ueber-uns/))

Tenant Portal "My AWG" and Digital Services

A central argument of AWG Rennsteig eG is its service portal "My AWG". The cooperative describes the portal as a new service offering for members that can be used free of charge after registration and is also available via an app. The goal is clearly formulated: less paper and mail, contributing to CO2 reduction, while simultaneously providing a modern service. Those who use the portal benefit, according to the website, from faster communication, convenient service, transparency, information, security, and data protection. This is a significant added value, especially for members who prefer to handle many things online. ([awg-rennsteig.de](https://awg-rennsteig.de/services/))

The role of Rennsteig Building Service GmbH, which as a subsidiary takes on various tasks around building management, also fits into the digital organization. Mentioned are janitorial services, maintenance, repairs, landscaping, winter services, administrative and traffic safety services, as well as emergency services. This makes it clear that AWG not only rents apartments but also considers the entire daily life around the housing stock. For members, this means: a clean, safe, and appealing residential environment service is not seen as an additional service but as part of the overall housing system. ([awg-rennsteig.de](https://awg-rennsteig.de/services/))

All of this results in a modern image of a traditional cooperative. Direct contact through the office remains important, but the digital level is visibly gaining significance. The mix of personal advice, service portal, app, contact form, and clear responsibilities creates orientation. Those who have questions about the apartment, the rental relationship, or practical concerns can choose the path that suits them. This is exactly what makes AWG relevant in the local comparison: it combines classic housing management with digital usability and keeps both levels open for members. ([awg-rennsteig.de](https://awg-rennsteig.de/services/))

Guest Apartments, Foyer Exhibitions, and Urban Society

In addition to renting regular apartments, AWG also presents guest apartments on its website. These overnight options are described as affordable and associated with the best city location or transport connections in Suhl. According to the website, the apartments are modern and spacious for up to 6 people, featuring living rooms, sleeping areas, kitchens, and bathrooms, offering barrier-free access in one apartment, bed linen upon request, and free Wi-Fi. This shows that the cooperative also has practical solutions for visitors, short stays, or transitional situations. ([awg-rennsteig.de](https://awg-rennsteig.de/services/))

It is particularly interesting that the office is not only an administrative location but occasionally also a cultural space. In November 2025, an exhibition by the painter group Permanentgrün was opened in the foyer of the office; the official announcement spoke of a plein air dialogue and that the exhibition could be visited until the end of April during opening hours. This makes the address at Friedrich-König-Straße 11 a place where living, administration, and culture meet. For the external perception of a cooperative, this is valuable because it signals closeness and openness. ([awg-rennsteig.de](https://awg-rennsteig.de/events/vernissage_06-11-2025/?utm_source=openai))

The social engagement in the urban society is also visible on the website. AWG reported on a family day at the zoo and emphasized its desire to engage more with the urban society to provide offerings especially for families with children in Suhl. Such activities show that the cooperative is not only focused on buildings and contracts but also on community, encounters, and local connections. For people looking for a housing provider with proximity to the region, this is often a decisive quality feature. ([awg-rennsteig.de](https://awg-rennsteig.de/news/tierpark/?utm_source=openai))

Why AWG Rennsteig eG Convincingly Appeals to Members and Interested Parties

Those who look at AWG Rennsteig eG quickly recognize a clear profile: long history, large reach, structured organization, and noticeable closeness to the everyday lives of its members. The cooperative does not work with an anonymous large administration but with fixed contacts, clear opening hours, a service portal, and complementary services such as building service and guest apartments. At the same time, it remains deeply rooted in Suhl and the region. This combination of tradition and modern service is what makes the location interesting for seekers. ([awg-rennsteig.de](https://awg-rennsteig.de/ueber-uns/))

Additionally, there is the size of the inventory. With 3,291 apartments, 4,286 members, and its own structure of representative assembly, supervisory board, and board, AWG is a significant housing cooperative in the southern Thuringian area. Its own brochure describes it as the largest housing cooperative in southern Thuringia; the about us page emphasizes the long-term development since 1907. This conveys reliability and shows that the cooperative has grown over decades without losing its regional identity. For tenants seeking planning and commitment, this is a strong signal. ([awg-rennsteig.de](https://awg-rennsteig.de/ueber-uns/))

Thematically, AWG is also relevant for various target groups. Rental applicants find housing offers in Suhl and the neighboring areas, members benefit from "My AWG" and the services, families and guests can rely on guest apartments, and those interested in community experience the cooperative as an active part of urban society. Therefore, AWG Rennsteig eG fits not only as an address for housing questions but also as an example of modern, responsible, and regional housing service. So, those interested in living in Suhl receive a compact, well-organized, and credible point of contact here. ([awg-rennsteig.de](https://awg-rennsteig.de/services/))

They are the only ones who can communicate with you in English among all the real estate rental organizations in Suhl. Very quick to help and try to solve and help with any questions. Thank you for that, Julian Plate.

After 45 years, due to the demolition of the property and not at the last minute, I wanted to consult with my landlord, AWG Rennsteig Suhl, about finding a new home. Ms. Zeuner and Ms. Hill found the right apartment for me that also met my needs. It only took one viewing. I now live there, feel comfortable, and am very satisfied. A big thank you to the two AWG consultants. Photos: That was once – now linden blossoms and greenery as far as the eye can see.

My family lived in an AWG apartment at Himmelreich 41. It was a very pleasant place to live. The AWG office was always accessible. Even for repairs and such, you didn't have to wait long. I still have my AWG shares, which I've held for eight years, but unfortunately not in Suhl, as transferring them from another city isn't possible. However, I would be happy if it were. Could I receive a reply?
