Shooting Sports Center Suhl | Opening Hours & Prices
The Shooting Sports Center Suhl is much more than a classic shooting range. The official description mentions a 27-hectare sports facility on the outskirts of the traditional arms city of Suhl, nestled in the Thuringian Forest and just a few minutes from the A71 and A73 motorways. The site is an Olympic, federal, and state base for sports shooting and has been one of the internationally recognized addresses of German shooting sports since 1971. Since autumn 2016, the facility has been managed by the Shooting Sports Center Suhl (SSZ) GmbH. Those looking for a modern, versatile, and sportingly significant location will find a site with history, professional infrastructure, and a clear focus on training, competitions, and guest operations. ([sszsuhl.de](https://sszsuhl.de/))
The strength of SSZ Suhl lies in its combination of breadth and specialization. National and international cadre shooters train here alongside clubs, hunters, gunsmiths, and guest groups. At the same time, competitions, courses, and corporate events are regularly held. This makes the facility relevant for many inquiries regarding opening hours, prices, directions, parking, shop, photos, or reviews: Those who inform themselves in advance receive not only a sports facility but a complete performance center with high usage diversity. Particularly striking are the many disciplines, the technical equipment with electronic target displays, and the clear tourist and sporting positioning in the middle of Germany. ([sszsuhl.de](https://sszsuhl.de/))
Opening Hours and Prices for Guests
For visitors, the question of opening hours is usually the most important entry point. The official website currently describes SSZ Suhl as open from Tuesday to Saturday from 09:00 to 12:00 and from 13:00 to 18:00. For shotgun, the same weekday applies, but with a continuous time window from 09:00 to 18:00. The zeroing range is available from Tuesday to Saturday from 09:00 to 16:00. The facility is closed on Sunday and Monday. Therefore, anyone planning a visit should align their schedule with these times and especially inquire in advance for training groups or specific disciplines. This is not only organizationally sensible but also important because multiple areas are operated in parallel on the premises. ([sszsuhl.de](https://sszsuhl.de/))
The official flyer also provides clear figures for guest programs regarding prices. It mentions 10 shots with air rifle or air pistol for 6 euros, 10 shots with small caliber rifle, pistol, or revolver for 15 euros, 10 shots with shotgun for 18 euros, 10 shots with large caliber pistol or revolver for 23 euros, 5 shots with large caliber rifle for 24 euros, and 10 shots with large caliber rifle for 42 euros. For the archery area, a price starting from 50 euros for 60 minutes is mentioned. Additionally, there is an insurance fee of 3 euros. This pricing structure shows that SSZ Suhl is accessible not only for competitive sports but also for beginners, guests, and curious visitors. ([sszsuhl.de](https://sszsuhl.de/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Flyer_SSZ_04.pdf))
The offer is complemented by training hours and individually bookable services. The flyer points out that there are individual packages for group and corporate events available upon request and that training hours are offered for ambitious visitors. This model makes the location attractive for different target groups: Those planning a first trial round receive different support than an organized group with a specific training goal. The official website also refers to a wide range of training hours, individual units, open shooting, and corporate events. Thus, SSZ Suhl is also a very concrete point of contact in the area of vouchers, experience offers, and special occasions. ([sszsuhl.de](https://sszsuhl.de/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Flyer_SSZ_04.pdf))
Directions, Address, and Parking at Schützenstraße 6
The address is clear: Schützenstraße 6, 98527 Suhl. According to the official description, the Shooting Sports Center is located on the outskirts of the city, in the greenery of the Thuringian Forest. For access by car, the flyer mentions the A73, exit 3 Suhl Friedberg. From there, the route continues towards Suhl, and then one follows the signs to the Suhl Friedberg industrial area and the Shooting Sports Center. The location is interesting for visitors from Thuringia, Bavaria, and Hesse because the site is easily accessible due to direct motorway connections while retaining the character of a quiet sports facility in the forest. ([sszsuhl.de](https://sszsuhl.de/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Flyer_SSZ_04.pdf))
For those arriving by public transport, the official site plan also provides helpful information. It mentions line G towards Friedberg with stops at Verlagsgebäude or Hubertusstraße, as well as lines A and G towards Friedberg with the stop at Hubertusstraße. Access is via the BMW dealership there. The parking areas P1 and P2 are designated in the site plan. Additionally, the plan marks the central access and separate paths for sporting and hunting shooting. This structure is practical because visitors do not have to search the entire site depending on the discipline but are guided directly to the appropriate area. ([sszsuhl.de](https://sszsuhl.de/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Flyer_SSZ_04.pdf))
From a tourist perspective, the classification is also important. Suhl positions the Shooting Sports Center as part of the arms city and emphasizes its location in a small city with short distances. This directly contributes to user expectations regarding access and parking: One does not travel to an anonymous event hall but to an established sports landscape with clear paths, signage, and a well-known address. For clubs, hunting groups, international guests, and companies, this is a plus because organizing travel becomes easier, allowing the focus to be more on training, competition, or experience. ([suhl-tourismus.de](https://www.suhl-tourismus.de/schiesssportzentrum-suhl/))
Shooting Ranges from 10m to 100m: Shotgun, Archery, and Running Target
SSZ Suhl covers an exceptionally wide range of disciplines. The overview page lists indoor and outdoor shooting ranges for shotgun, running target, large caliber 25m and 100m, small caliber 25m and 50m, air pressure 10m, and archery. This breadth makes the facility highly relevant for Google searches regarding seating plans, programs, availability, or equipment, as users want to know not only that there are shooting ranges but also which disciplines are actually possible on site. The site is designed for parallel operation and can thus accommodate both competition and training situations. ([sszsuhl.de](https://sszsuhl.de/schiessstaende/))
In the 10m area, the Erich-Krempel-Halle offers 50 modern electronic SIUS systems according to the website. Additionally, there is an air-rifle hall on the upper floor of the main building equipped with 18 cable pull systems, 11 electronic SIUS systems, and an electronic 10m running target system. A separate final range is available for final competitions. This infrastructure is particularly valuable for competitive and youth sports because it allows switching between paper and electronic operation and different training groups can be supervised simultaneously. ([sszsuhl.de](https://sszsuhl.de/en/luftdruck-10m/))
The 25m and 50m facilities are also technically well equipped. The 25m area has an outdoor facility with eight ranges for Olympic rapid-fire pistol and sport pistol, as well as an indoor facility in the multipurpose hall with five ranges and a total of 25 individual facilities. The 50m outdoor facility includes 95 lanes, of which 80 have electronic SIUS systems, while the 50m indoor facility in the Erich-Krempel-Halle offers 18 lanes and is used during the winter months. In both areas, results are displayed immediately, which facilitates use in national and international competitions as well as training for clubs and youth groups. ([sszsuhl.de](https://sszsuhl.de/kleinkaliber-25m/))
For large caliber and hunting-related disciplines, the center also offers clear solutions. The zeroing range includes three lanes at 100m and three lanes at 25m, as well as a small workshop primarily intended for gunsmiths. The 25m lanes are approved up to caliber .50AE, and the 100m facility is rated up to 14,000 joules. Additionally, the running target is available on two 50m ranges, where hunting use with one's own rifle up to a maximum caliber of 9.3×62 is also possible. Hit display is done via cameras and monitors, and the control allows shooting according to the rules of hunting associations and the ISSF. This is a true unique selling point for shooters, hunters, and associations. ([sszsuhl.de](https://sszsuhl.de/grosskaliber-stand-100m-25m/))
For shotguns, SSZ Suhl has four combined ranges that can be used year-round for trap and skeet. Additionally, from April to October, at least one stand has a compak course set up. The trap trenches are equipped with fifteen Laporte machines each, and there is one additional throwing machine available in the houses. Archery is also strongly integrated: Since the merging of bases in 2018, the archery cadre has been based in Suhl, and besides the year-round archery range, the Erich-Krempel-Halle is available during the cold season. This creates a remarkable mix of precision, tradition, and modern competition technology on the premises. ([sszsuhl.de](https://sszsuhl.de/wurfscheibenstaende/))
Shop, Vouchers, and Trial Shooting on Site
The shop is an important anchor point for many visitors because it expands the sporting experience with advice, selection, and direct appointment arrangements. The official shop page describes a brand new location in the southern complex at the shotgun range. Exclusive weapons from the brands Blaser and Browning are offered there. Those wishing for advice can contact Frank Günther and Dirk Siewert; both are mentioned as contacts for trade, shotgun, ball disciplines, and archery. Additionally, trial shooting with available demo weapons is possible upon request. This positions SSZ Suhl not only as a training facility but also as a knowledgeable trading partner for shooters and hunters. ([sszsuhl.de](https://sszsuhl.de/ssz-suhl-shop/))
Vouchers are also part of the offer. The official page explains that everything from shooting with an air rifle to training hours for specific disciplines can be booked as a voucher. Upon request, the voucher can be designed so that the recipient recognizes the service, but the amount remains secret. This is interesting for birthdays, anniversaries, club gifts, or corporate events and additionally makes the location strong in searches for terms like prices, gift ideas, or experience vouchers. Therefore, anyone looking for not just an appointment but a special surprise will find a very concrete and regional solution at SSZ Suhl. ([sszsuhl.de](https://sszsuhl.de/gutscheine/?utm_source=openai))
The breadth of the offer is also reflected in the official presentation for guests. The center speaks of training hours, individual units, open shooting, and corporate events and explicitly mentions that hunters, shooters, and guests are also addressed. There is also a webcam on the premises that provides a live image of the current weather conditions at the ranges. This may be a small detail, but it is very useful as it quickly clarifies the situation before traveling or before a training day. Together, this makes SSZ Suhl feel like a complete service landscape for shooting sports rather than just a single range. ([sszsuhl.de](https://sszsuhl.de/))
History, Base Status, and International Competitions
The history of the facility is central to the positioning of the site. The website states that the Shooting Sports Center has been renowned in international top sports since 1971 and has been managed by SSZ Suhl GmbH since autumn 2016. At the same time, the facility looks back on 50 years of successful shooting sports as a host of world and European championships, World Cups, and countless national competitions. This combination of historical depth and modern management explains why Suhl has such a strong name in the shooting sports scene. ([sszsuhl.de](https://sszsuhl.de/))
The German Shooting Federation also clearly emphasizes the importance of the site. It describes Suhl as one of the most well-known, scenically beautiful, modern, and compact shooting sports facilities in the world. According to the DSB, more than 80 events with up to 700 participants are held there annually. The facility is fully accessible and serves as a performance center for Olympic and Paralympic top sports. These are solid indications that Suhl is not only regionally but also among the most important shooting sports locations in national and international comparison. ([dsb.de](https://www.dsb.de/der-verband/ueber-uns/bundesstuetzpunkte/bsp-suhl/))
The list of sporting events shows how consistent this status is. The DSB mentions, among others, the European Championship for shotgun and running target in 2013, the World Championship for people with disabilities in 2014, the World Championship for running target in 2016, the Junior World Championship in 2017, and the renewed Junior World Championship for 2026. Additionally, the tourist side highlights the world championships in 1986, regular World Cups in 2006 and 2008, as well as the European Championships in 2013. This is important for content searches because it clearly defines the location as a place for current events, historical highlights, and international top competitions. ([dsb.de](https://www.dsb.de/der-verband/ueber-uns/bundesstuetzpunkte/bsp-suhl/))
The sporting infrastructure underpins this reputation. The DSB lists for Suhl, among other things, 95 ranges at the small caliber range 50m, a final hall for 10m and 50m, 40 ranges at the small caliber range 25m, 50 ranges in the multipurpose hall, four combined shotgun ranges, two facilities for running target small caliber, and a zeroing range for 25m, 50m, and 100m. Additionally, the site includes a sports hall, a strength training room, rooms for performance diagnostics, sauna, changing rooms, physiotherapy, doping controls, and competition organization. This clearly shows how professionally the facility is geared towards competitive sports. ([dsb.de](https://www.dsb.de/der-verband/ueber-uns/bundesstuetzpunkte/bsp-suhl/))
Practical Tips for Guests, Clubs, and Training Groups
Anyone planning an appointment should be familiar with the booking logic of SSZ Suhl. The detail pages repeatedly emphasize that individual ranges can be requested by individuals, clubs, domestic and foreign shooters, as well as shooting associations. Competitions, regular training dates, and courses of the TSB or DSB are taken into account. This is particularly relevant for many inquiries regarding programs, bookings, or prices: The center is not only open for spontaneous guests but is primarily designed for structured, professionally supervised use. ([sszsuhl.de](https://sszsuhl.de/kleinkaliber-25m/))
The location is particularly interesting for training camps and longer stays. The DSB mentions three differently sized seminar rooms for 15, 25, and 70 people, as well as a sports pension with catering facilities on site. There are 50 beds and two accessible rooms available, each with two beds in living units. Breakfast, half board, or full board are possible. This allows SSZ Suhl to be seen not only as a conference venue but also as a complete training campus. For clubs, state squads, and international groups, this is a strong logistical advantage. ([dsb.de](https://www.dsb.de/der-verband/ueber-uns/bundesstuetzpunkte/bsp-suhl/))
The target groups are also broadly defined. The website mentions international and national cadre shooters, club shooters, hunters, gunsmiths, hunting schools, and corporate events. This mix is precisely why the location works in both sporting contexts and in tourist and business contexts. Suhl itself is described on the tourist side as a city with short distances, a place of relaxation, and a clear identity. This connects the Shooting Sports Center's sporting precision with a location that is conveniently accessible for visitors from all over Germany. Those looking for a modern, professionally strong, and historically relevant shooting sports center will find one of the most robust addresses in Germany here. ([sszsuhl.de](https://sszsuhl.de/))

Great trap shooting facility, well connected and with green forest in the background, ideal for practice and troubleshooting. Had a blast again, almost alone and in pretty low temperatures, thick fog. Not the best conditions, but great facility, everything works perfectly! The pigeons move quickly and flexibly into the shooting field! The staff is always friendly and helpful! Competitions are well organized and motivating! Good value for money! Everything is easily reachable by foot. You can also operate the stands with a guest card via the computer. Looking forward to when the investments for this great facility are released... See you soon!
