Eye Health in Focus: The 36th Suhl Self-Help Day combines knowledge, exchange, and practical insights

On Saturday, October 24, 2026, the 36th Suhl Self-Help Day invites you to the Congress Centrum Suhl. Under the focus of eye health, professionals, self-help groups, counseling centers, clubs, and interested visitors will gather. Admission is free, doors open at 1:00 PM, and the program begins at 1:30 PM.

An informative afternoon centered around vision

The event combines medical information with personal encounters and cultural education in the broadest sense: knowledge is conveyed in a vivid manner, experiences are shared, and concrete support options are made visible. In the banquet hall, expert lectures will address central questions in ophthalmology. Topics range from living with glaucoma to visual therapy and appropriate behavior in acute complaints.

Expert lectures with medical expertise

After the opening by Mayor Jan Turczynski, the lecture Living with Glaucoma – from Treatment to Rehabilitation will begin at 2:00 PM with Prof. Dr. med. habil. Kathleen S. Kunert from the Henneberg Rehabilitation Clinic Masserberg. At 3:00 PM, theoretical foundations and practical exercises for visual therapy will be presented by occupational therapist Yvonne Trier. At 4:00 PM, Dr. med. Kai Wildner and his team will address the topic The Eye in an Emergency – Interpreting Symptoms, Avoiding Worse. The program will be moderated by Daniel Ebert.

The eye as an experiential journey

A special highlight will be a walk-through eye model. It makes the structure and function of the human eye spatially tangible and translates medical connections into a vivid exhibition situation. The offering is complemented by optical innovations, aids, and informational materials. The contemplation of work yields to immediate experience: seeing, orientation, and perception become the subject of an enlightening aesthetic experience.

Self-help visible and accessible

In the foyer of the banquet hall, along the upper floor of the atrium, as well as in and around the Social Center, themed self-help and initiative groups will present themselves. These include the Suhl Blind and Visually Impaired Association, Pro Retina LG Thuringia, and the State Aid Center of BSVS e.V. Visitors will gain insights into counseling offers, aids, and support options for those affected and their relatives.

Encounters, advice, and shared exchange

The Self-Help Day creates an open exhibition atmosphere where medical expertise and personal experiences meet. Conversations at the information booths, health information, and individual counseling are just as central as enjoying coffee and cake. The expert lectures will also be streamed live on the YouTube channel of Suhl Self-Help.

The event is expected to end around 5:00 PM. You can look forward to an informative and personally close afternoon filled with expertise, practical impulses, and encounters. If you are interested in eye health, are affected yourself, or want to support relatives, you will find valuable orientation and a dedicated network at CCS Suhl. Take the opportunity for a rewarding artistic experience of a special kind: a vivid, life-like exhibition situation where medical education and communal exchange become immediately tangible.
