A Piece of Suhl City History Between Consumption and Department Store
On Thursday, November 19, 2026, the anniversary edition No. 80 of the Little Suhl Series will celebrate its premiere. The event at the House of History focuses on the development of the Suhl Consumer Cooperative and its close connection to the city's history.
From the Origin in Heinrichs to the Department Store at the Market
The focus is on the development of the Suhl Consumer Cooperative from its beginnings in Heinrichs to its most significant building: the current Schmid department store right at the marketplace. The history of this site leads directly into the economic, social, and societal changes of Suhl.
City History as a Reflection of Societal Changes
The department store at the market appears not only as an architectural testament. Its eventful history tells of the highs and lows of societal development and makes visible how closely everyday life, trade, cityscape, and collective memory are interconnected.
A New Edition of the Little Suhl Series
The publication is authored by Dr. Gunter Dreßler and continues the esteemed series with its 80th edition. The premiere combines knowledgeable historical research with an engaging author encounter and offers a concentrated view of a formative chapter in Suhl's past.
A Literary Experience for History Enthusiasts
The reading atmosphere in the House of History promises an immediate cultural experience: regional history is made tangible not abstractly, but based on concrete places, buildings, and developments. The event is aimed at all those interested in city history, everyday culture, architecture, and the historical identity of Suhl.
The premiere of the 80th edition of the Little Suhl Series invites attendees to view familiar places with a new perspective. Those who wish to understand Suhl will encounter traces of its economic and social history. Admission to the event is free according to the event announcement.
